The Unexplained

I don't know what it is about this song and video...I can't explain it.
It sort of gives me this happy, in your face feeling. I don't even have anyone to feel this way about but I feel it anyway and I like it.
Whoever made the video, seriously its a work of art in my opinion.
I love the colors, the items in the background, their clothes, their facial expressions and gestures. It is hilarious to me.
Maybe there are subliminal influences in it that lure me in I just don't know.
And frankly I don't care. I just really like it and the world should know.

P.S. I just realized that I really need to drink too much and karaoke this song!

Weird Things We Do

So Marcus, my eldest was nearly bald until he was 2 years old. He had very fine, thin, white-blond hair but he looked bald. So every once in a while I'd lay my hair on his little head and we'd giggle thinking this is something along the lines of what he might look like once he grew his own hair. Matt and I both have brown hair, so this was an easy assumption.
And so it came to pass that he did indeed grow a nice mane of thick luxurious hair but instead of my dark chocolate brown he grew an unfamiliar but nevertheless beautiful honey gold...(it always reminds me of Silas Marner, my little pile of gold).
So tonight as we watched AFV, his favorite show, I walked behind him and lay my hair over his (not so little anymore) head. It never ceases to amuse me and everyone else in my family. I will probably keep doing it until, god forbid, I should go bald.
(Still trying to figure out a way to share my eyebrows...)

A Quest

So I wanted to do something different for our yearly family photo and because it wouldn't be safe to photograph my whole family bungee jumping I am thinking of going with option B. Which apparently the Germans have been doing forever.
At weddings and parties everyone gathers up and holds a frame in front of themselves and ta da! A picture within a picture, which I find to be very ironic and fabulous.
So I am on a quest to find the perfect old and cool looking frame.
I will start at the second hand shops but if anyone has other ideas feel free to share.

Visual Stimulation

Ahhh...‘French films’.

What is it with these French films? Have they made a deal with the devil?
So far they are all so brilliantly simple and earthy. The story lines are relatable and I feel transported for a few hours into an existence that is somewhat like my own but not quite. I love the filming style. I love the dialogue. Not to mention the scenery! There aren’t explosions or elaborate costumes but the whole experience is intimate and satisfying.

I was just going to mention the French films but really the Bollywood films deserve some attention as well.

The Bollywood film is quite the polar opposite of the French film.
There are insanely elaborate costumes, story lines that are completely over the top and a culture that I can’t relate to at all but so much I can relate to; the humor, the sorrow, the longing, the singing (because I too sing everything that is in my heart, hehe). There is an immense amount of talent in Bollywood.

So go ahead, delve into the entertainment possibilities. You will be amazed.

A few of my favorites:

A favorite quote from Happenstance
Laurent Firode

"On the simple toss of a pebble you see every detail-
Every gesture as slight as it may be, reveals an infinity of truths and thus has endless repercussions and grandiose effects.
You only have to piss in the sea to make the ocean rise.
Don’t they say that the beating of a butterfly’s wings over the Atlantic can cause a hurricane in the Pacific?
So feel free sometimes to do something stupid, random and ludicrous.
That stupid, random and ludicrous act can upset the order of the world."

Anxiously Awaiting Cheese

Cheese in a can...you might scoff at the very idea of this but wait, I am not talking your granny's Cheez Whiz here. I am talking something heavenly...the golden milk of cougars otherwise known as Cougar Gold Cheese.

If I am being honest I will admit that just because you could make cheese from cougar milk this isn't, in all reality, the case. It's just a name. If you were too lazy to click the link and read wiki's "schpeal", I will sum it up for you.
In the 1940s the US government and American Can Company funded WSU's research to find a way to successfully keep the cheese in tins. Cougar Gold was discovered during this time and was named after Dr NS Golding, one of the men involved in its production.

Last year I had the great honor of eating this cheese...I would call it a religious experience because while the buttery golden goodness slowly dissolved on my tongue I did see a vision of a fierce and beautiful cougar swiping its massive paw at me while I was attempting to milk it...anyway that was weird. Moving on.

I recently discovered that I can buy this divine cheese in a can online and have it shipped to my own home to make yummy and wonderful things. However with the massive heat that melted most of the U.S., horror of horrors, all shipping has ceased! But alas worry not shipping with resume for some of us on September 28th.

I have a long list of things I will be making once I have this can in my hot little hands. Potato Soup, Pizza, Omelet's, Cheesey omg Gritz...it goes on.
So if you too would like to experience this bliss you too can go to
WSU's Website and order your own. You can even thank me later.

Taking Advantage

I think that no matter how cool someone is or how much you love and value them, as the years go by you begin to take advantage of them.
There were things that you were so excited about in the beginning. You were awed by that person but as humans tend to do, you acclimate and you take for granted the things you were so grateful for when they were new.
I think this happens in every relationship. You become comfortable. In a way this is necessary for a relationships survival because you are able to take the bad with the good. I was just thinking today about Matt and how he does so many things that are sweet and thoughtful, how he takes care of me and gives me things I don’t even know that I need. I was hoping that I appreciate him enough, that even though we have been together for over a decade that my awe still shows because there are so many times I am struck with wonder that I could have gotten so lucky.

The Wind Is My Friend

From the time Ben was a baby up until he was nearly four, he feared the wind.
It would blow in his face and he would cover his eyes and cry or run to me and hide his face against my chest.
So we spent a lot of time talking up wind and praising its virtues.
It blows the trees and makes them dance, it creates energy, it helps the trees shed their leaves so that they can change seasons, it carries seeds for new flowers to grow, it cools us when we are hot; and so on.
Our catch phrase was, “The wind is our friend”. He started saying it to himself when the wind would blow in his face and eventually he believed it.
Today I walked down Main Street to run an errand and there was a happy wind blowing. It blew through my hair and whispered in my ears, it pressed gently all around me and it was strong enough that when I put my hands out, I pushed against something firm and yet not graspable. Today the wind emulated a lingering hug from an old friend and I remembered what we had taught our son, “Oh yes, the wind is my friend.”

Snuggie's For All...

So being a reader, in an air conditioned house and especially in the winter when it is drafty, I am truly plagued with freezing appendages while holding my books. Of course I have blankets but surely there must be a better way?
You guessed it, there is, its a snuggie. And you don't have to be a lady reader to use one. You can be a dude who really likes green. Or a lady who wants to be pregnant again but doesn't want to go through the hassle of getting that way.
You could even be a 20 something habitual pub crawler and enjoy all the benefits of a snuggie!
You don't have to feel embarrassed because everyone is doing it, even your neighbors dog Sir Muffin Pants!
Order one for the low price of $19.95 plus 7.95 S/H and you get one free!

Seriously though friends could there be a dorkier way to stay warm?! My god! The insanity of it all! I'd rather be cold!

Disclaimer: If you are a snuggie user, that is fine, just know that we can't be friends anymore. Unless you are the baby. All babies are exempt.

He's Not Poopy.

Marcus was 6, Ben was 2. 2006 seems so long ago.

Old Things for Young Ones.

Tuesday on the drive home from school we happened to be listening to the Mama Mia soundtrack specifically "Our Last Summer" and both of my boys happily sang along. My oldest sang every word but added his own air drums and guitar singing with in a Brandon Flowers type voice. It brought me joy that they will both carry a love for ABBA in their hearts and hopefully pass it on to their children.
For a moment I could see him all grown up on stage with crazy hair rocking that song and asked him to consider it someday, he enthusiastically agreed.
And here's a random ABBA song, of course its great.

My Good Opinion Once Lost...

The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith were some of my least favorite vampire books (and I have read a few) so naturally the series on CW was, for lack of a better word, crap.
Terrible dialogue and bad acting at its finest. Damon was the only character that I felt was even a little bit believable (and I didn't believe him). He's definitely channeling a young Rob Lowe.
The only up side to me watching the show is that I got an hour all to myself, Matt put the boys to bed and brought me clothes to fold and tea to sip.
Next Thursday I will be skipping V.D. (the show, not the disease...although I will skip that too).

Why Yes, I Am Going to Watch and See

I am about 90% sure that this is going to suck but a part of me has to find out.
So tonight at 8/7 c I will be all curled up, watching and seeing...

Revealing My Not So Dirty Little Secret

I have a shampoo fetish. This morning I counted 13 different kinds of shampoo in my shower. You see I like to use a different one every day, I like to smell different every day. One of my closest friends admits to regularly peeking into my shower to see what I've got, she says it makes her feel like she is in the shampoo aisle.
I have everything from Biolage and Cinnamon Buns to Strawberry Suave (which was my shampoo of choice today).
I think this stems from having to choose from one shampoo during my childhood...you will never find Pert Plus in my shower, not that there is anything wrong with it but I used it for so many years that I never want to see it or smell it again!
And though it may sound excessive, not one person who uses my shower complains.

That old familiar smell

Today Ben and I walked around the school campus as we waited for Marcus to get out of class. As we looked around at things and talked a gust of wind blew up and I was taken back in time to my own school days as I smelled that old familiar smell of snakes and grass...I am always astounded by how my nose has such a fantastic memory. If I had a superpower it would surely be my sense of smell.

One of my many favorite songs...and a crazy video to boot!

I remember fondly being 8 years old riding with my Uncle Dave in his rusty baby blue Chevy Love singing this song at the top of our lungs. I hope he knows how much those little memories mean to me as an adult. Love you Uncle Davey.

I'm just going to put this out there...

I wanna "blog" on you!
